N°2 DIFFERENT STROKES ARTS FESTIVAL

The DIFFERENT STROKES ARTS FESTIVAL will be held from Thursday 29 April until Sunday 9 May 2021 in LaVallée in Brussels.
The festival includes the DIFFERENT STROKES exhibition, a dance performance, a concert and  workshops for kids and teens.

DIFFERENT STROKES exhibition  comes forth from an open call to (female) artists from different artistic disciplines to create an artwork together. This call generated new and old encounters between artists of different artistic approaches, generations, experience and vision. In this time where the meaning and importance of being in touch changed completely, the project connected people through art. The exhibition shows an international multidisciplinary artistic exploration through a selection of 19 artworks and collaborations with fascinating stories to tell.

Arts Festival details

SIDEWARDS is a collective that focuses on practicing, creating and performing dance. They bring ‘If you want, maybe not’: a dance performance that immerses its audience into an exploration of boundaries and an imaginative world of intense encounters.

Vero and Alex from the HONEYPONEY  band will give an experimental beats and lyrics workshop for youngsters with a passion for (electronic) music. It will be an artistic research in the creation of a piece of music. The workshop is given bilingually FR – NL for kids 11 – 18 years old and will take place outdoors (to allow 12 – 18 year olds to join according to covid regulations).

Jelle Annie Michiels gives creative workshops under the name IGNORE THE MESS. In the spirit of the Different Strokes exhibition, she organises a workshop for kids that combines two techniques: print + sculpt inspired by the artwork she co-created with Lieven Hendrickx.

Olivia Hernaïz created the boardgame ART & MY CAREER to address the issue of under-representation of women in the art world. The game is based on hundreds of testimonies and features different careers in the art world (from artist to museum curator over professor). Players are invited to put themselves in the shoes of these women to better understand their struggle. We have one FR and one EN game available for you to borrow: come with your friends/family and play!
